Francis says: a ’ experience overblown!
The season of the newborn Besana Secutores Drum & Bugle Corps began and Francisco Villa after his great experience will help the group to work on the new show for the season 2012.
Below is a wonderful interview done a few weeks after his return. (thanks Diego Brugora)
Francesco Villa, return the U.S.A., He tells us about the three months of living in the Glassmen file, one of the 25 Drum Corps della DCI World Class, the highest world level with regard to music on the move.
“Nostalgia is the worst thing, I really miss the activities and the people who have been by my side every day ... " these are the first words of 19-year old trumpeter Besanese, and he excited with the proud look of someone who knows that he made a remarkable dream.
Party last 29 April at a time of Toledo in Ohio, He was immediately found myself catapulted into a completely different reality not even have time to acclimate: "The first night and all weekend we had a testing camp, instructors had an incomprehensible accent, I took me about a month to be able to understand the language well even though I had already attained a certificate in English " ; the next two weeks was a guest at a local family before starting the real preparation in Glassmen from mid-May to mid-June.
"We had a month to set up our show, we were in 150 housed in a former school, and slept on a mattress in large dormitories, our day began with the alarm for 7:45 and ended with dinner after ten at night, We were trying to 12 hours on weekdays and for 14 hours on weekends, practically we didn't hardly ever outdoors, It was forbidden to drink alcohol or soda, the timetable were strict ".
After the first period very hard however began for all Drum Corps performances in public, This type of event is widely followed in the United States and for boys were beginning to arrive the first satisfactions as enthusiastic Francis: "at every event there were at least 1000 people, When we finished our show people screaming like crazy and you felt on an emotion that you had alittle difficult extensively to get there; every day was a stage in a different city, sometimes very distant from the previous year and coach travel often became an opportunity to recover some sleep.
The ultimate goal for all was Indianapolis where it would take place the "DCI World Championship".
After passing the first night of preliminaries, the Glassmen were ranked in the semifinals 13esimi coming within a whisker of the final reserved for the best 12 formations ... "Our staff and our instructors they never spoke of scores, our goal was not to reach a score but give the best always, the competition in America is very different, There is great respect among all formations and you don't hardly ever controversy on the results, just accepted, the finals day, When we were shooting for Stadium, We realized that our show MY MORTAL BELOVED had been one of the more welcome ever from the public and many believed unfair our exclusion from the top 12 ".
Are unquestionably many differences between American and European or Italian marching, the age of the performers, methods of study, the Organization and especially the mentality, the difference in level is overwhelming, However at the end of this experience "exaggerated" Francis has very clear ideas about its future: "I learned a lot and I realized on my return that here we have a lot to work on to improve, for this I want to convey as much as possible my knowledge not only to my fellow Bailey but to all the Italian guys who want to get involved in the wonderful world of music on the move!”
